Emile Blondel

Pianist Emile Blondel, a native of Charlottesville, currently
resides in Brooklyn, New York and has established himself as >
a soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist, and jazz
pianist. He holds BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance
from the North Carolina School of the Arts where he studied
with Eric Larsen. Mr. Blondel attended the Ecole Normal
de Musique de Paris Alfred Cortot, studying with Désiré
N’Kaoua and Christian Ivaldi. He was named a Harriet
Hale Woolley scholar by the Fondation des Etats-Unis in
Paris and was awarded a residency at the Cité International des Arts in Paris for
the 2004/2005 season, during which he premiered chamber works by Australian
composer Paul Clift and American composer Christopher Trapani. Mr. Blondel
has appeared with symphony orchestras such as the Heritage Chamber Orchestra,
Durham and Richmond Symphonies, performing in concert halls throughout the
eastern United States and in France. He has also indulged his passion for cham-
ber music during seven seasons at the Meadowmount School of Music in upstate
New York, where he received coaching from renowned chamber musicians Robert
Mann, Joel Krosnick, and Paul Katz. He has performed with the Harrisburg
Chamber Players and was pianist with the American Chamber Trio during three
summer residencies at the Coolfont resort in West Virginia. Interested in innova-
tions of new sounds in modern music, Mr. Blondel has performed George Flynn’s
“American Nocturne” alongside the composer at DePaul University in Chicago.
While living in France he studied jazz piano and jazz theory at the Bill Evans
Academy in Paris.
